Garage Sale Report
Sorry this took so long to post, but here is the outcome of my garage sale.
- I spent 9 hours in my garage or running back and forth between the garage and the house. It was very tiring.
- I went from place to place picking up things for the garage sale, spending lots of time on the road and gas.
- I spent the entire evening before the garage sale, going from grocery store to grocery store, putting up signs for the sale.
- I took time off from work the Thursday before to get the garage sale set up.
- I made $150.
- I lost $150+ by taking time off the Thursday before the sale.
The moral of the story is, garage sales are good only if you expend very little to prepare for them. Don’t take time off work. Don’t buy materials for signs, etc. Don’t buy things to sell in the sale. Don’t go from store to store putting up signs. Also, don’t run around picking up stuff to sell. I lost more than I gained. It will be a while before I do that again.
Here are some links to some sites that can help you have a better garage sale than I did:
Hi1 I’m sorry to hear about your non-profitable sale, I know that is very frustrating.
It is possible to have a really great sale and make some decent money! I made $1300 at my last sale. We had a group sale, I spent a lot of time in preparation and planning and I had a ton of stuff!

It was my fault, though. I needed to not take the time off work to get everything ready. Thanks for the link on planning.
