In order to get your money’s worth on a new checking account, Suze Orman gives the following list of criteria in her book Women & Money: Owning The Power To Control Your Destiny:
- A checking account should not charge a monthly fee for simply having the account
- Low (or no) balance required
- Free checks and check writing
- Online access to your account statements and free online bill pay
- Insurance coverage on your deposits
