Save money with a locking gas cap
There are thieves everywhere; people who benefit from the hard work of others. I’m sure you have probably been a victim at some point in your life. I have several times, and it is not a pleasant experience.
If someone steals from me, they are also stealing from my daughters. I will not stand by and allow THAT to happen.
Back when the gas prices went about $2.00 a gallon, a friend of mine and I decided that we should protect the gas we have in the tanks of our cars by getting locking gas caps. I believe he was able to get his here in town, however, I ended up having to order mine online.
I’ve had my locking gas cap ever since and have only had 1 occasion when I went to get gas, but did not have the key with me. Sure, it’s a little bit of an inconvenience, however, having someone drain your tank is more of an inconvenience.
I’ll take the trade off…

I had a locking gas cap during the last gas crunch. The lock broke and I could not unlock it. It was surprising how easy it was to force it off even when it was locked! If someone really wants to steal your gas they’ll get it one way or the other. But then again if there are easier pickings in the same lot, they’ll go elsewhere. So maybe I’ll go buy another one.
I think the whole point of a lock is to deter entry, not prevent it. I bought a locking gas cap around the same time that Al did. Mine still works, though. For some reason, I had to order mine online as none of the auto parts stores in town had one for my car…at that time.
