Cheap Lawn Mowers

So you are looking for a lawn more, but you don’t want to pay full price. As a matter of fact, you don’t want to pay anything. In this case, unless you have a grandmother who is going to give you her brand new Snapper mower, you are going to have to pay something. Here are a few tips for getting a lawn mower…cheap:

  • Craigslist is a great resource for finding a mower.
  • Send out a request email to all of your friends. A lot of people will purchase a new lawn mower and keep the old one because they just can’t bring themselves to throw it out because it still runs.
  • Check your local yellow pages for lawn mower repair shops in your area. Repair shops often have used mowers for sale.
  • Freecycle is also a good resource for lawn mowers. Freecycle is basically a swap mailing list. Once you join, you get notified when people need something (called a Wanted) or people have something to get rid of (called an Offer). I see working mowers on this list all the time.
  • Try garage sales. You can find garage sale notices in Craigslist. You may find a deal.
  • Pawn shops also have lawn mowers, but in this case, you may find a steal…literally. You may end up with someone else’s property. If you are OK with that, they have some pretty good deals.

Let’s assume you want to save money, but you don’t want a used mower. Here are some ideas for getting a good price on a new mower:

  • Buy that new mower in the winter. Off-season is the best time to purchase any outdoor equipment. I was able to get a really good deal on a snow blower while walking through Sears in the middle of the summer.
  • Make sure you are comparing apples to apples when looking at the features. You should compare weight, power, cost, width, and propulsion.
  • Watch the sale papers. You can even try www.salescircular.com if you want to save the money and the trees.

If you have any more tips on how to get a cheap mower, whether it be new or used, leave a comment.
