Tips on Saving Money at the Grocery Store/Supermarket

One sure-fire way to save money, is to buy the generic equivalent, of the product you are looking for (If it’s available at the store where you’re shopping). For example, instead of spending $4.99 or more on ACT Fluoride rinse at Wal-Mart, buy the generic equivalent, EQUATE (Wal-Mart’s generic brand) Anti-Cavity rinse which is somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.37. The same can be said for Baby Powder, Shampoo (Dandruff and Therapeutic). You are saving money and likely getting more bang for your buck! Also, the ingredients of the generic brand are almost identical to the name brand. Another way to save money the next time you go shopping, is to go to your local “Dollar Store” (Dollar Tree, Dollar General, etc.). I have found, I’m able to not only save money, but also buy in greater quantities at the dollar store. To give you an example, whenever I have to purchase batteries, I can get the Four (4) or Eight (8) packs for only $1.00. If I attempted to buy the same at Walgreen’s or another store I’d be paying much, much more. The same holds true for other items. A box of ACT II ‘Buttered’ Popcorn (8 bags), cost me $2.50 at Wal-Mart. A box of saltine crackers (4-pack) costs me $1.00, plus tax at Dollar Tree. A six-pack of Chicklets chewing gum ($1.00 at Dollar Tree), similar deals can be found on other brands of gum, candy and other assorted sweets. As far as the grocery store goes, here are just a few ways to “get your monies worth”. There’s a supermarket chain here in St. Louis, MO., called Shop ‘N Save. I have found many deals and cheaper prices at these stores.

To Review:

  1. Buy the Generic Brand, at the place where you’re shopping (if available)
  2. Shop at the “Dollar Store”.  You save money and get more bang for your buck.
  3. Shop at Wal-Mart. (search for the generic brand and deals, again you’re saving money and getting more bang for your buck.
  4. Shop at your local ‘Discount’ grocery store, for you Food items and buy in bulk whenever and wherever possible.

That’s all for now. Be sure to look for my tips on saving money at the movies. Until then, shop smart and spend wisely.
