The Dollar Store: Good and Bad

There are good and bad things about the dollar store. Disclaimer: By this, I do not mean any store specifically by that name. I am referring to any store that sells things for a dollar.

Good

According to my mother, you can get name brand items there for a lot less than at the regular grocery store. Also, getting items to reward the kids is a lot cheaper at a dollar per than at the grocery or department stores. In addition to that, I’ve found that school supplies, kitchen items, containers, and gift wrap are all a lot cheaper than at the department store.

Bad

The dollar store, however, does not always offer items of the best quality. A lot of the items there will break easily, or they won’t even be what is listed on the package. In a Seattle Times article entitled “5 things to avoid at the dollar store“, they mention that some vitamins have been found to not contain the ingredients listed on the package. Based on that, I’d be concerned about medications.
