Frugal Interview #1

I thought I would do something a little different in this post.  I recently did an email interview (some may call it a survey) on saving money, spending less on items, etc.  The first person to be interviewed was Sabra Duffiney of sabraduffiney.com.  I will be doing a lot more of these interviews in the future.  Until then, here is the interview:

How do you save money on food products?  On clothing for yourself and your children?

Set limits and stick to them, especially when clothes and grocery shopping.

I pick through the range of prices on a particular item, and try it whether it be clothes or food.  If I feel that it did not taste to my liking for instance Ranch salad dressing (store brand) but I like another non-name-brand dressing and the taste is better, I continue to purchase it.  Or a cheap pack of socks that are scratchy or wear out quickly, purchase a pack that is a bit more in price but lasts a much longer time.

Do you take your lunch to work?  If so, what kinds of things do you take?  If not, what do you do for lunch?

I usually will take something with me, for instance left overs, sometimes a sandwich. Once in a while I forget and I do splurge and stop at a [McDonald's] or just wait until I get home.

Let’s say you are ready to acquire a laptop.  What process would you go through to get the best price?

Scan the World Wide Web.  Look at magazines, if they are accessible.   I usually come to a conclusion on things I’m ready to purchase quickly.  The real process is what is it capable of?  Price comes in second to that.

Have you acquired anything recently on which you were able to wrangle a discount?  If so, please describe in detail.

Yes.  I was able to purchase a TrendNet Router from NewEgg.com.  It is a very reliable and stable router with great functionality.  The best part of the transaction was the final price of $9.99.  You can read my full take on it www.SpendingLess.com.

Do you have any money-saving suggestions for the frugal blog readers out there?

Don’t just think about this payday, or this month.  Think forward and consider where you want to be in or 5 years 10 years.  Make a financial plan that is within your means and follow it to the best of the economy’s ability.  I understand it is a hard financial time for millions of people today.  Some of us have cut back and cut back and cut back of our expenditures, but still don’t seem to have enough.  Budget is key.  Try out your options within your budget, keep track of receipts to see where your money goes, and stick like glue to your budget plan!
